My dear Alfred,
Please consult my brother about your needed clothes. He is better able than I am to tell how such you require at this time. One thing, however, I must make clear, and that is the necessity of keeping your expenditures down within reasonable limits, and chiefly because of the upset conditions in China and the necessary uncertainty which we must face for the future. Until things become more stable over there, you and Helen must do everything in your power to keep year expenses down and so help your father.
Very sincerely yours,
