Typed letter sent from Charles S. Macfarland to Alfred E. Stearns about John J. Ungvary. Received a letter from Ungvary stating Ungvary was laid off from the dining hall job and had no money. Explains there are other cases like Ungvary's, but more urgent in regards to obtaining funds. Asks Stearns if the situation is as dire as made out to be.

Prof. Alfred E. Stearns, Andover, Mass.

My dear Mr. Stearns:

Sometime ago Mr. John J. Ungvary, wrote me that he was in financial need and I thought I had a plan which would help him out.

The source upon which I counted, however, failed to materialize. I now have a letter from him this morning stating that he is without a cent, that he has been laid off from the dining hall and that he must have immediate assistance.

I have several cases like his on my hands, some of which are more urgent than his.

Therefore it may take me a little time to get hold of some one to help him.

I have learned nothing regarding his work at Andover, excepting what I have gathered from him.

I wish you would write me as to whether or not he impresses you as giving sufficient promise to warrant me in obtaining help for him.

I do not know whether or not he has told you of his situation. I judge it is very urgent and I am trying to find some one who will get interested in him.

Will you please let me know what you think of him?
