Description

Typed note sent from Dr. Alfred E. Stearns to K.Y. Tu. Believes pin is too valuable for a school student to hold. Unsure if Tu's father wants to pay over $18.00 in duties, but believes it may have to be done regardless. Asks Tu who the check should be made to.

Dear Tu:

I have your letter of November 30 about the duty on that scarf pin. This is a bit unfortunate, for a pin of that price is altogether too valuable an article for a fellow in school or college to have on his hands. Indeed it is a real extravagance, and I am not at all sure that your father would wish you to invest over $18.00 in payment of the necessary duty. Perhaps we shall have to do it. however, under the circumstances, but I must know to whom the check: for the same should be made out. Please advise me on the point.

Very truly yours.
