My dear Dr. Stearns,

I hope that you have received my last letter, in which I requested that you will attempt once more to persuade my boy to perform his duties and to realize his own responsibilities about his future.
With this note I am sending you through the American Express Co., a box containing one cloisonne incense burner and a pair of vases which I pray you will accept as a little token of my sincere appreciation of your kindness and the trouble you have taken on account of my son. I hope that the box will be delivered in good order and in time so that the good wishes it carried will reach you for Xmas and the Happy New Year.

Hoping that I may hear from you again before long.

I beg to remain,

Yours very sincerely,
