My dear Dr. Stearns:
Thank you for your letter enclosing checks which I sent you for your inspection. You can use your judgment about reimbursing this fund, and if it is reimbursed I will certainly only check out when Tu represents things to me that I know are emergencies which have arisen. I am perfectly willing to do anything you wish in the way of administering matters for Tu. Personally, I would much prefer to have you send me money that Tu knows nothing about, therefore, I would have nothing to do with his finances. So long as he knows I have a few dollars he will approach me for different things. If he knew it was to come from you that would cut off this avenue of assistance.
I am pleased to know that you are satisfied with the arrangements which have been made for Tu for his expenses for this coming year.
I’ll report at any time things which you should know. I think he has gotten off to a good start and I will keep after him to see that he does his best in his work.
Very truly yours,
