Dr. A. E. Stearns,
Phillips Academy, Andover, Mass.

My dear Dr. Stearns:

Yours of recent date concerning your ward K. Y. Tu has been read carefully. In consideration of your statements concerning the financial condition of Tu’s Father, I have made the price of the room $600.00 for the year. This gives him a good-sized room and I have received such rental for the room upon previous occasions. Therefore, I trust this reduced rate of $100. on the former price will be acceptable to you. I am enclosing a statement for the half year for his expenses.

I will do all that I possibly can to curb his expenses and warn him that money will not be forthcoming for large personal items. I will make a rule that I will advance no money for him or have any charges made on the books other than the bills of our school. His other money must be secured from you personally. I have no desire to handle a personal account for him here, neither can I advance money from the office for any emergencies. I trust this meets your approval.

I am enclosing a supplementary account concerning the expenditures of the $50.00 deposit which was left with me last year. This will explain itself to you, but should you need additional explanation concerning the financial expenditures, I will gladly furnish the same.

I know you have your perplexities with a case like this one, and I will do my best to cooperate with you from this end and urge him to excel in his studies and make good while his father gives him this remarkable opportunity.

Sincerely yours,

PS A bill for $300.00 will reach you the last week in January for the second half year. Therefore. you can see that his account for the year will be $640.00 for regular school expenses.
