Dr. Stearns,
Principal Phillip Academy, Andover, Massachusetts.

My dear Dr. Stearns:

Your ward, Mr. K. Y. Tu entered this school two weeks ago. He has reported to me that you are his legally appointed guardian in the United States and that the bill for his expenses for the first half year should be mailed to you. This I am doing and, if you are not in funds to pay the entire bill at this time, I would be glad to have you send a check for as much of it as possible and remit the balance at your earliest opportunity.

Please explain to me the business arrangement you have with Mr. Tu concerning his spending money and funds for the purchase of clothes and personal articles. I think it would be wise to place here with me, a sum of money, say twenty-five or fifty dollars which I could have at my disposal to meet the emergent demands which arise from time to time such as Dentist bills, Medical care etc.

The young gentleman has conducted himself in a commendable manner since he has arrived here.

We have made special arrangements for him to have considerable individual attention in the study of English. I trust that he will make good progress in this school.

Thinking you may be interested in the Institution in which Mr. Tu is a student, I am mailing you a catalog which will give you some particular data concerning the Seminary which is now nearly one hundred years old.

I would be pleased to hear from you stating that you are his legally appointed guardian and that he is financially responsible and able to meet the financial obligations which arise from time to time during this school year.

Very truly yours,
