My dear Mr. Stearns,
In perusing your letter of the 13th of April, I have to thank you for your kind expressions contented and gives me much pleasure to know that at the least I have done something to please my friend, who has been ever so kind to undertake and give his valuable time in looking after a friend’s son.
Regarding to his lending money to friends I quite agree with you in refusing him and with your strict supervision, you will please let him to understand, that he is to sweep the snow from his own doorsteps and leave the generosity for the time being, until he is able to support himself, and it is my desire that he should stick to this policy, as overdrafting and unnecessary expenditures are both annoying and undesirable, should there be a balance on hand it is best to reserve it for emergencies.
On the 27th last month, I forwarded a check for $600. and no doubt it has already reached you by this time.
With best wishes and kind regards from
yours ever sincerely,
