My dear Mr Steams,

You will see by this letter, that I am back again in Shanghai, and in reading your letter of the I7th April I am in every way agreeable with your plans and suggestions on behalf of my son, which he ought to comply, as to my part I have every confidence in your sound and practical judgement in regarding to his future career, however, should he insists to go on, the only way is to let him continue until the end of the year. In the meantime, you will please strictly check his educational progress and not allow him too much liberty with his boy friends.

I am enclosing you a cheque for $600 so that in case of emergencies, you may have funds on hand to disperse his actual needs.

In sending my kindest regards, I must admit that I am greatly indebted to you for all you have done for us.
