Dear Mary:
It is probably wise that you should have your checking account at New Haven rather than at Elmira, and consequently I am sending you herewith an additional check for four hundred dollars ($400.00).
Of course I cannot tell exactly how long this sum should last you. but I know that you can be and regularly are thrifty in your expenditures, at least you used to be when you wore a member of my household, and so I must leave the matter in your hands. All I ask is that you should send me a monthly account of your expenses so that I can see how things are going. I want you to have everything that you require, of course, and I am sure that this would be your father’s wish as well.
Ever faithfully yours.
