Dear Mary:

Thank you for your letter of June 30. Charlie and Tom had already written me of seeing you in New York. I am so glad that you three had a chance to get together for a short time before starting in on your arduous summer labors.

The work which you tell me you are to do this summer sounds most interesting, and I have no doubt that you will derive great and permanent profit from it, even though it may naturally prove a bit distasteful at times. Incidentally, may I say again how please I have been at the reported improvement in your work at Yale, and the seeming evidence that you are beginning to get a grip on it and on yourself. Continued success to you!

Thank you, too, for sending me the statement of your accounts for May and June. What about your financial status at the present time? Do you need additional funds, and if so, how much?

Ever sincerely yours,
