Dear Charlie:
I have just received a cable message from your father dated Shanghai, September 5, reading as follows:
"Tell Charlie mission temporarily postponed. Continue study diplomacy at Columbia as you two decided."
I believe this will not be news to you, but I am forwarding the message as requested and to make sure that the situation is fully understood. If I can be of further help, don't hesitate to let me know.
Faithfully yours,
