Dear Dr. Stearns:

Please forgive me for not having acquainted you with the fact that Frank, Arthur, and I had moved over to Wellesley Hills to live during the month of August; I thought Arthur had told you; therefore I did not. Our little household is getting along fairly well; besides doing our cooking, sweeping, etc. we find time enough to enjoy ourselves with games, exercises, and study. The air here is good too, and I am none too sorry for having left Boston.

As you know the great exposition is now in full swing in Philadelphia, and this year the annual Chinese Student Conference is also going to be held in the same city. I am very desirous both to see the exposition and to be at the Conference, which never yet have I attended before; so I venture to ask your permission concerning both. If your opinion be in the affirmative, I shall go to Philadelphia on the 4th of September, first to visite a few friends of mine, then to see the exposition, and lastly to attend our Conference which ends on the 15th, giving me ample time to reach College, scheduled to open on the 23rd. I shall not see you again before returning Amherst; so I will say "good-bye" to you through this letter and my best wishes to Miss Clemons when she returns to the States.

Obediently yours,

Charlie Sun

P. S. At the opening of my college this coming fall, I shall have to meet one or two heavy bills; expense for my room is two hundred and fifty dollars and the first payment of tuition, which is due immediately at the commencement of the academic year, is one hundred and forty dollars, the total being two hundred and fifty dollars. These two and other innumerable, little expenses, quite necessary at that time of the year, will bring the amount to a sum between five and four dollars, which, of course, will cover also my expenses for the rest of the term until Christmas. Please mail me either one of the above sum as you deem fit; my address (until the 4th of September) will be: -
c/o Arthur Sun, M. I. T. Dormitory, Cambridge, Mass

I thank you, Sir, in advance
Charlie Sun
