Dear Dr. Stearn
I have received your letters of January 27th and February 10th respectively for which I wish to thank you sincerely. I am very glad that my son has been making some progress and I am writing to him in a day or two further to encourage him.
When I received your letter of January 27th I made up my mind to have Kong return to China at the end of the year. After having read your letter of February 10th, I have changed my mind, and will make a decision as to whether he should return in December or for a little longer period.
It is unnecessary for me to assure you how appreciative I am of your kind efforts to make my son a good student.
Since my return to China I have been busy preparing my naval report for my Government, which is being printed.
I am herewith enclosing a draft for U. S. $600 to defray educational expenses of my son. I feel certain that you will give him only so much so that he will not learn an extravagant habit.
Yours very sincerely
