My dear Sir:
I have just learned that my Chinese ward, Mr. Charles Sun, now in Amherst College, has been involved in an automobile accident subjecting him to financial liability. He tells me that you are the one who has brought the matter to his attention and asked for settlement.
Mr. Sun and his two brothers and sister have been my wards since they arrived in this country from China several years ago and for a time lived in my own home in Andover. He is one of the finest and cleanest fellows I have ever known and is greatly upset over this occurrence. Needless to say both he and I stand ready to meet all proper obligations in the matter, but I shall be glad to have you take the matter up with me direct, since Mr. Sun is still a minor and the funds for his education have been placed by his father in my hands and charge. Will you kindly send me, therefore, a full statement of the affair and an itemized account of the damages involved.
Very truly yours,
