Dear Mary:
Thank you for your letter of April 12.
No, your father hasn’t written me about any hangings or anything else that he had sent me, and your letter gives me the first intimation that I have had that anything of this kind was to be expected. I am sorry to hear that the hangings have been injured on their journey, but will write your father and explain what you have told me and express, of course, my appreciation of his kindly thought.
I am glad to hear that you are coming to Andover before you leave, for I shall want to see you once more before you sail, and that will be the best and perhaps the only chance that I am likely to have, though I still hope to get to New Haven before the current term is over.
Very sincerely yours,
Thank you for your letter of April 12.
