Dear Mary:

At last I have definite word from your father that the proposed European trip is to be abandoned and that you are to come directly home as soon as you have completed your course and secured your diploma at Yale.

Congratulations! I only wish that your father had been equally friendly to Tom’s request to go with you, but he still insists that Tom should remain in this country until he has completed his graduate work at Yale.

And so I am writing to ask whether you wish me to make the steamer reservations for you or whether you propose to do it yourself. No doubt it can be done through some good agency in New Haven, and if you are planning to go on the same steamer with your friend, as you earlier suggested, very probably you will wish to make the arrangements yourself, though of course you will have to count on me to supply the necessary funds. Please let me know your decision, however, since I am anxious to get busy on the proposition at the earliest possible date if the responsibility is to fall upon me.

Ever sincerely yours,
