Dear Charlie:
I have your letter of May 28 and am returning the signed room application blank herewith.
Of course I am glad to have you visit your friends in New York at the close of the college year, provided you think you can stand the expense.
I think you are right in believing that your countrymen are altogether too much inclined to attach excessive importance to the name of an American institution regardless of the quality of the work the institution supplies or the standing of the individual graduate concerned. However, I am perfectly willing to accept Professor Bradley’s recommendation and approve your choice of the University of Michigan for your graduate work. Michigan stands among the very best of our State Universities.
With all good wishes, believe me
Faithfully yours,
