My dear Dr. Stearns:
Your protege, Sun, came in to see me yesterday and he is the most charming Chinaman I have ever met. He made an exceedingly favorable impression upon me and I saw the Dean immediately afterwards and found that he had made a similar impression upon him and I have told the Dean that I thought we would be justified in holding our usual condition a little bit in abeyance if he did not make the full number of credits for entrance. I did not tell Sun this for it is perfectly obvious that he wants to be treated like every other boy and have no favors shown him. That was one of the things which made me like him.
I am very grateful to you for steering him in this direction and we look for good things from him.
Ever cordially yours,
