My dear Tom:
I have your letter of September 7.
Since neither of us knows exactly what your expenses are to be, please ask your tutors to send me direct their bills, weekly if they desire. I will see that the accounts are promptly settled. The same treatment should be accorded the bills at the opening of your college year; so please instruct the treasurer there to that effect.
Let me know as soon as you can what the decision is in regard to your entrance to Middlebury College and, in case you are successful, what your permanent college address is to be.
With all good wishes, believe me
Faithfully yours.
