My dear Dr. Stearns,

Enclose please find the statement of my expenses for the passed summer. I hope that it will be satisfactory. On the third sheet you will find that I have added up the different expenses. That is the way I find to be the most satisfactory, because I had to buy my meals everyday and it will take more than a dozen sheets of paper to state them day by day. In that case it will confuse you to have so many items to look over, whereas in this way you can get a birds-eve view of the whole thing. I made a trip down to Easton to see one of mv
friends, and if I put down everything, a large quantity of paper will be used and will be less sufficient, but if you want that, I have it right here, but not written down in any form so that I can hand it in and have anyone else understand it except me. But I will be glad to do it if you wish it so.

As a result I find that staying in Boston is very expensive. The amount that surprised me is the expenses for subways. But if you come to think of it, that ten cents per trip, the amount will be exceedingly high at the end of the summer. This year I will have additional Fraternity dues to pay, but that will balance the low cost for my room which is 45.00 per semester instead of 75.00 which I had to pay last year. The board increased from 125.00 45 to 144.00. I am living and eating at the Fraternity House. I will as last year need 500 dollars for the fall term to pay all the college bills and the fraternity bills, besides I will have to buy books which amount to a big sum last year, and it is likely to be thus again.

I am writing this at this time is that am rather short and I also know that you will be very busy around the 16th of this month fixing things up and interviewing visitors before Andover opens.
