Dear Charlie:
On my return to my desk this morning I find your letter of recent date, received at the office on September 7.
Doubtless you have received by this time the letter which I wrote you from the Lake immediately on the receipt of your own letter of earlier date. I told you of my feeling about the Norwich University plan and of my readiness to approve of the step, provided only your father approved also. If you have not received this letter, please let me know and I will have a copy of it sent you. My bag which contains the summer correspondence has not yet come through, but I expect it today.
I am sending you a check for $500.00, as requested, to cover the college expenses of the fall term, at least. As summer expenses invariably mount higher than we anticipate. I hope you will be able to keep the expenses of the college year down to as reasonable limits as practicable.
With all good wishes, believe me,
Ever sincerely yours,
