Dear Dr. Stearns;

The weather is growing cold; this year’s end is drawing near; once more the hearts of Amherst students glows at the thought of Christmas season. I am one of them. However, since I am not going home or anywhere else, I am thinking of studies at present more than the coming vacation. This week I shall have three examinations and next week two; then I shall be through for this year During Christmas recess I shall most probably stay here in Amherst, for in Amherst I can get more rest and enjoyment than anywhere else.
In regard to the fact that the fall term is fast ending, I wish to bring up another question, and that is I would like to have my next year’s allowance for the winter. I shall be very busy next week, and I suppose that you will be also; therefore I am taking this opportunity to ask you for it. I shall feel more at ease during the vacation if I know there is enough money in the bank. Please permit me to thank you for it now; because I won’t be able to write you again till Christmas.

Miss Clemons, I believe, is still is [sic] Europe. I like to write her and send her a Christmas greeting in some form or other; so I shall feel very grateful, if you will give me her address.

Obediently yours,
