Dear Mary:
Thank you for your note and for the bill. I find that the earlier bill which you OK’d and returned was placed by my secretary, and by an error, in the envelope in which I keep your receipts. Miss Jones discovered it there when your letter came. Consequently the bill has not been paid but will be at once.
I am also in receipt of your note enclosing the receipt for check for $300.00 recently sent you. Your explanation of the source of the publicity you have received in the ANDOVER TOWNSMAN clears the mystery completely, for I know that a good many institutions make a business of sending to the home papers of their pupils any items of news that they think are likely to prove interesting to the home folks. I appreciate your modesty in the matter and, of course, am not going to criticize you for notetelling me of the honors that have come to you.
With all good wishes, believe me
Ever faithfully yours,
