Dear Arthur:
I am very sorry to learn from your letter just received that you have been having such a hard time with your teeth. All I can do is to hope with you that the trouble is now over and that you are not going to have to go through anything of this kind again. Why at your age your teeth should be found in such bad condition, I can't possibly understand, unless you have definitely neglected the care of them in the past.
I have already mailed a check to cover the hospital expenses.
Yes, I saw Mary in Elmira the Sunday before last and found her seemingly in the best of health and spirits. She hopes to pass her Christmas vacation with her friends in Springfield, where you ought to be able to get a chance to see her.
Very sincerely yours,
