My dear Miss Bickford:

I have your notice about the enrollment of members of your camp for the coming summer and readily understand that early registration is required. Unfortunately I have not yet heard from China in regard to my young ward, Helen Tsai, to whose father I wrote sometime ago for instructions.

I am writing Mary Sun by this morning’s mail to find out whether she has made any definite plans or entertains special preferences for the coming vacation. In the meantime, I can’t, of course, ask you to hold places for either of these girls to the exclusion of other and earlier applicants. I had rather hoped, however, that developments might enable me to place at least one of them in your camp for the summer, but I am afraid that it may he several weeks yet before I can tell definitely, owing to the unsettled conditions in China and the consequent uncertainty involved in the exchange of correspondence.

Very sincerely yours,
