Dear Mary:

Your letter of May 1 has been duly received, and I am a little concerned about your suggestions for the period intervening between the close of college and the opening of your summer school. Further, I am wondering just how much value that summer course in Entamology [sic] and Mineral Resources is going to be to you. Where in the world is that going to fit into your college education or what possible use of these subjects are you likely to make when you return to China? Please consult your Dean there at Elmira before you definitely choose these subjects or any others for the summer work. Another thing, I don't want you to stay in Elmira until the summer school opens unless you are going to get some relaxation and benefit from it. It would be better for you to spend a little money rather than turn your whole summer into an uninteresting and hard-working time. Think this over pretty carefully, please, before you decide.

Yes, Arthur is planning to go home this summer, and only a few days ago he came out here to talk over plans. Quincey, too, expect to return, though I am not sure just when. Arthur tells me that he almost never hears from you and so finds it difficult to know what you are doing or how you are. Can't you write him oftener?

With all good wishes, believe me

Faithfully yours,
