Dear Marshal:

At the foot of this Lafayette’s Monument where memories of the past are made most vivid, we in the capacity of custodians offer you this token of the love that the children of the United States of America bear for you. It is expressed in combination with their recollection of the aid France gave their nation at its birth, and of their thoughts of their own fathers and brothers who crossed the seas with their General Pershing to the land of France. With this emblem will be found a letter from the children’s servants expressing their wishes concerning their desire to build two schools in devastated France to be known as the Foch-Pershing and the Washington-Lafayette schools. They hope that you will designate the sites where these memorials will be built.

We remain the humble servants of yourself and the children of our country.

French Restoration Fund.
