Dear Al,

I got your check for Theodora mailed from the Home camp day before yesterday and also a check in settlement of Alfred Tsai's account this morning.

After the strenuous work at the Anniversary and the period of sustained dignity that goes with entertaining the President, and receiving so important a degree, it must have been a relief to get up into North Amerikee and swap a few fish yarns with Grant Covell.

In regard to Alfred Tsai’s account, we have been giving him, according to your suggestion, a regular weekly allowance of one dollar. This is entered as cash on the bill. Occasionally Alfred has asked for extra money for the purchase of some little item of clothing etc. Whenever the request has seemed necessary or reasonable I have increased the amount of the weekly allowance to cover it. This accounts for all the items marked "cash" on his bill.

Much love
