Miss Mabel Jones Phillips Academy Andover, Massachusetts

My dear Miss Jones:

I am in receipt this morning of a letter from Dr. Stearns in regard to Miss Helen Tsai and particularly in regard to her care until the opening of our fall term.

It would be quite convenient to have her come to us at once. There will be three other girls who will have come early before Miss Tsai arrives.

One of our Sisters is spending a few days in South Duxbury, Massachusetts, with the Sisters of Saint Margaret, and will return on Wednesday. You could get in touch with her and make an arrangement by which Helen would be properly chaperoned to Peekskill. I am writing, too, to Sister Columba, asking if she hears from you to co-operate in every way in the care of the child. I do not know whether Sister Columba has arranged to come by the Wednesday night boat or by train.

It will be no inconvenience whatever to have Helen come early. In fact I shall be glad to have the opportunity of becoming a little acquainted with her before the rush of the school year begins.
Dr. Stearns has also spoken about the matter of her dress. I should think, from what he says of the girl and her attitude last year, that she would be happier if she wore the regular school uniform. That is not a matter of great expense. It seems almost a pity, however, to put aside the very attractive Oriental dress and perhaps from time to time she might be able to make use of a part of her Chinese wardrobe. Would you not think it advisable that I talk with her after she comes and then write you?

I am looking forward to having Helen in the School and I hope it will be possible to make her happy and to feel that she has gained something from her school year.

Very sincerely,

Sister Superior, C.S.M.
