Mr. Edwin C. Spooner
Long Lake Lodge
North Bridgton, Me.
My dear Mr. Spooner:
Thank you for advising me of Tsai’s safe arrival. I don’t know anything about Yung. Unlike Tsai, who was placed under my special care and oversight he manages his own affairs. If we discover any way of getting in touch with him we shall be only too glad to ask him to get into communication with you at once. Our Chinese boys as a whole have proved remarkable reliable, but every once in a while they have a queer way of taking things for granted without taking others into their confidence.
I shall be greatly indebted to you if you will keep an eye, more or less, on Tsai, especially in the matter of his expenditures. His older brother, who was extremely popular when he was here, was pretty level-headed too. My only fear is that Tsai may possess the same qualities which made his brother popular, but may also be tempted to spend a bit too freely. If he needs money at any time, I shall be glad to have you approve his request, and the funds will be forthcoming promptly.
Wishing you a most successful summer, believe me
Very sincerely yours
