My dear Dr. Stearns
Please accept thanks for yours of the 17th instant concerning H.C.Chan. We shall be glad to receive and provide for him if he manages to offer the necessary subjects as he undoubtedly is going to do. We propose with him, as has been the case with Henry Yuan, to accept the work done in the Chinese classics and Chinese literature for our Latin requirement.
We are particularly pleased with Henry Yuan. He seems to be justifying the fine statements which you gave us concerning him.
