Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute,

Dear Sir:
In the absence of Mr. Bancroft permit me to reply to your not of the 8th regarding Mr. Chang who has been a student in this Academy for two years. Mr. Chang has shown rather more than average ability. He is very ambitious and industrious. If he has covered the requisite number of subjects to make his admission seem advisable I think he will have no difficulty in doing your work, so far as industry and ability are necessary.
Very sincerely yours,
Assistant to the Principal.
