My dear Helen:

Thank you for your letter of November 12. I am sorry that
I did not answer your last letter, but these have been busy days of late, and I have had little time to do more than the work demanded of me here.

It is nice indeed to knew that you and Alfred are both getting along so well now and are so happy in your work. I knew that this was bound to be the outcome, though I knew also that the first days and even weeks would be a bit hard. Both of you have met the new conditions with wonderfully fine spirit, and I congratulate you heartily.

A word about your Thanksgiving recess. Whatever Mrs. Russell consents to will have my approval. I don’t know, however, what plans the school itself makes for the recess period, and hence I am not ready to authorize a visit to friends elsewhere until I am clear on this point. Most schools do not like to have their pupils leave for the brief Thanksgiving recess, and some refuse outright to allow any to go. That is why I must be governed by Mrs. Russell’s own feelings and wishes in the matter. So please talk with her and ask her if she is willing to drop me a line explaining the situation so that I may cooperate fully with her, and of course for your own good.

With all good wishes, believe me
faithfully yours.
