Dear Dr. Stearns,
I thank you for your kind letter of 9th. ultimo and feel as much grateful to you as if my son been under your care.
I regret very much to repeat what I wrote in my letter to you of 29th. Ultimo viz. my son died in Shanghai on 16th. September.
Thanking you for the offer of your kind services which would be most valuable, had the sad event not occurred, and tendering you my best regards.
