My dear Tommy:
Thanks for your note with inclosed bills and check. The latter I am depositing to your account. As this does not meet your overdraft by several hundred dollars I hope you won’t take it as permission to increase your vacation expenses unduly. The need of economy seems to me to be if anything stronger than ever. The fact that your father sent you only $300. would seem to indicate that he will be surprised and tremendously distressed when he finds how much money you have actually spent since you have been here.
Forgive me for constantly dragging in the question of economy, and accept my heartiest good wishes for a pleasant holiday season and a happy New Year.
Faithfully yours,
