Dear Tommy:
Thank you for your nice letter. I am glad indeed to hear that all starts out so well for you at New Haven. Let me hear from you from time to time, for we shall miss you sadly up here and shall be eager to learn of your life in New Haven.
Chow is still worrying the life out of me. Yes, he is going home soon, with Seetoo I hope. It is absolutely impossible for me to do anything for him here, and he seems disposed to throw money around even more recklessly than last year. I feel as though I never would be willing to look his father in the face again, after the miserable failure I have made in my attempt to keep Chow’s expenses within bounds.
