My dear Tommy:
I have your letter and the inclosed receipt for your board bill. Thanks for both.
I inclose check for $25. as requested, which ought to reach you by tomorrow (Wednesday) morning. When you get the rebate on your soccer team expenses, hold on to the money hard, for the bank account is overdrawn, as you know, and it has been necessary for me to borrow funds at the bank to tide you over. Of course the financial situation is fearfully unsettled for everybody just now and I have no doubt that your father like many others is suffering greatly because of this fact. We must do all we can to ease the burden for him.
Your postscript with its report of your latest mark in Mathematics brought me a lot of satisfaction. That is the kind of news I like to get. Keep it up, and let’s have similar reports from all the other subjects, and that at an early date.
Please sign and return the inclosed receipts promptly, so that they won’t get mislaid.
Faithfully yours, as always,
