My dear Tommy
Many thanks for your note and for your most interesting and wholly unexpected Christmas gift. The water pipe has not been in use since the night that you and one or two of your friends down at the house tried to show me how to enjoy its latent pleasures. With this new equipment I shall undoubtedly have to tackle it again for myself; and I shall do so with the greatest interest and some misgivings. I only hope that I don’t get blown up in the process.
You were mightly [sic] good to remember me, and I deeply appreciate it; though I hope you won’t have me unduly on your mind. If I have neglected to send you a Christmas greeting, it is not because I have forgotten you; and I am glad to include it herewith. With it also accept my heartiest good wishes for the coming new year. May it be the very best ever!
Always sincerely yours,
