My dear Tommy:

Many thanks for your letter in spite of its rather disheartening news. I don’t like the sound of "probation," and I earnestly hope that you leave it behind you at an early date. Anyway I shall be glad to talk the matter over with you when I come down to New Haven next time, can also discuss the question of summer plans.
