My dear Tommy:
Thank you for your good letter. I am sending check to cover your term bill, as requested. Frankly, I am glad you are in Columbia rather than in New York University; and I certainly hope that you are going to make a record in the new institution that will tend to wipe out [illegible] part least the stigma of the past. Your failure at Yale has been a real and keen disappointment to me.
