My dear Tommy:
I am enclosing herewith checks aggregating $39.31. This represents the total amount of cash I have on hand at this time to your credit, and, of course, is part of the $700. loan to which I referred in my recent letter to you. I can't quite make up the $60. you have asked for, "but I am sending all I have on hand. This cleans out the account and leaves you still indebted to the bank to the extent of $700. I had to renew that loan only this last week and pay interest upon it. I renewed it for six months only, however, in the hope that you would find a way to settle it during that time and thus save additional interest.
I am also enclosing a bill which came for you this morning from New Haven. I hope you are not getting hopelessly entangled in financial difficulties.
Kindly acknowledge receipt of check and return the enclosed receipt at your early convenience.
Faithfully yours,
Enclosure
