My dear Tommy:

It is a long time since I have heard from you. and I cannot help wondering how you are getting along and what the future has in store. Won’t you write me?

I am reminded of yon especially to-day by receipt of a notice from the bank that the loan which I have been carrying down there on your account is due this week. I shall have to renew it, of course, with the necessary interest charges; and I cannot help feeling that as a matter of economy if for no other reason this obligation ought to be taken up by you at the earliest possible date. So long as I hold the note you are compelled. Of course to pay interest which means just that much extra on your expenses. I feel sure that if your father understood the situation thoroughly he would be the first one to wish to get rid of this extra burden. If you have not already done so. won’t you take the matter up with him at once? I dislike to write him myself but I really feel that I ought to if you are not able or willing to make the matter clear to him.

Let me hear from you and tell me frankly how you are getting along with your work. Mrs. Hall spoke to me only the other day, and I had to admit that I know practically nothing about your work or progress during the current school year. I can’t help feeling a bit anxious; and. as you know, I am always interested.

With the best of wishes, believe me as of old
Your sincere friend.
