My dear sir:
I am sorry to have to advise you that your boy’s work of late has been very unsatisfactory to us, and that as a result we have found it necessary to place him on a strict probation for the balance of the term. During that period we shall watch his work carefully, and unless we are able to note a very marked improvement, we shall be obliged to ask his withdrawal from the school. I earnestly hope that this last course may not be forced upon us, and that the boy himself, appreciating the danger which confronts him, will devote himself from now on earnestly to meeting the requirements imposed upon him. If he is willing to do this, there is no reason why our later reports to you should not be of a much more satisfactory nature.
Very truly yours.
