My dear Mr. Stearns

I thank you warmly for your kind letter of the 17th
about Mr. Vung Lung Wong. I have engagements in New York which will occupy the next fortnight. I expect to be in Cambridge again on the 7th. As soon as possible after that date I want to come over to Andover and see Mr. Wong and his family. Before I have any long visit with them, I should like to have an interview with you. I do not really know how trains run to Andover, but my present thought is to come to Andover on Tuesday, March 10th., and I should be much obliged if you would write me in advance of that date suggestion another day if that should prove inconvenient, for an interview with you, I think we must do something to enable Mr. Wong to carry out his father’s desires. It seems a sacred duty and I want a conference with you as to the best way of approaching a very delicate subject.

I am certainly not devising a plan to weaken the domestic
ties in this family. I think we have much to learn from the Chinese respecting domestic fidelity, but I do believe that Mr. Wong, the little wife and the baby would all be happier as well as actually better off, by some other arrangement than by that which I understand now exists.

Of course I write you in perfect confidence. Thanking
you for the frank kindness of your own letter, and anticipating with pleasure an interview, I am,

Very cordially yours

May Wright Sewall

P.S. May I venture to say that my interest in coming to Andover is augmented by the fact that my father was a student there in the early part of the nineteenth century.
