My dear Mr. Robinson:
Allow me to thank you for giving me the opportunity to render you such slight assistance as you have suggested in connection with your coming trip to China. By all means call on Sir Liang, and if you lay stress on your Andover connections I am sure you will find the ice already broken for you, if any one exists. I enclose a letter which I hope will answer your purpose.
In case you do go to China it is needless for me to express the hope that you will convey my respects and good wishes to the late Minister, whom I can assure you you will find a most generous host and a royal good fellow.
Sincerely yours.
