My only basis for it is the examinations he wrote in June and similar experiences with other boys. The examinations showed that he hasn’t the working knowledge he ought to have in both Arithmetic and Algebra. I believe he should tutor first in Arithmetic. If, in addition to being able to answer correctly such questions as occur on our past Arithmetic examinations he can be prepared to enter Algebra [2?], work in Algebra should be taken up this summer. I am mailing several of the former examination papers. In English, the boy should have practice in spelling, grammar, and composition.
