<text>Dear Madam:

Dr. Stearns has asked me to inquire from you the date of Miss Mary Sun’s graduation from the Yale Nursing School. Miss Sun’s father is planning for her to return to China this summer, and in order to plan for her transportation, it is necessary for us to have the date of her school’s closing.

Very truly yours.

                <text>My dear Doctor Stearns:

We have had so much sunshine on the Cape this fall that the girls have enjoyed swimming, hiking, and horseback riding to the full. Recently they played the annual soccer game: "Dartmouth” vs. "Princeton", the former winning by one point! Mary will be interested to know that Bobby Gallagher was captain of the "Princeton" team.

Even at this early date, applications are coming in for Camp 1927. We are therefore sending this letter to all old campers whom we desire to invite back to Sea Pines. It is a pleasure to write you that Mary is included in this group.

As you probably anticipated last year, we are compelled to increase the tuition from $300.00 to $350.00. However for the old campers invited to return, we are giving the privilege of old rates, $300.00. It would be a great help to us in planning for the summer if we could receive your definite application not later than January 15th. We are therefore enclosing the registration blank.

If it is quite impossible for you to come to a decision at this time, we will, upon receipt of the enclosed card, extend the date of acceptance to March 1st.

We hope Mary is enjoying her school year and is well and happy. Since the real test of the value of camp is its carrying power throughout the year, we should like very much to receive the enclosed questionnaire, filled out at your convenience. If it would be of help to Mary, Miss Faith would be glad to write her at your suggestion.

Mary was such a splendid camper that we hope she will be with us next summer.

Mother, Miss Faith, Miss Addie, and all the other executives send affectionate greetings to Mary. Perhaps it is not too early to include beat holiday wishes to every member of your household.

Sincerely yours,

My dear Mr. Stearns:

I have received your letter of March 2nd regarding Mary Sun.
I wish to tell you confidentially that I have received a letter from a friend of Mary’s enclosing a letter from Mary to her. In this letter Mary seems to pour out her whole heart to her friend. She seems to be very much depressed on account of her surroundings.

Under the circumstances, I think it may do her good to have a change. My wife and I would be only too glad to have her come down to Washington and spend her Spring vacation with us. We will try to cheer her up, and I am sure that the change will do her good and that she would undoubtedly return to her work after such a relaxation with new interest.

Very sincerely yours,

Dear Dr. Stearns:

With reference to Mary Sun’s school I have discussed the matter both with her and Charlie. The suggestion I made has been accepted by Mary, which is as follows: Mary is to remain at Merrimac till the end of the scholastic year with the object to prepare for college. During the summer she is to study under a special tutor in order to insure her admission to college next September.

As to the selection of college, Elmira seems to meet her wishes at best. I think it is possible to arrange with a teacher of Elmira college to coach her during the summer in such studies that require special attention. It is perhaps also possible to find a tutor who will be willing to take Mary in during the summer as a paying guest. I am not for the moment able to say definitely as to the requirements for admission to Elmira College. I am under the impression that Elmira’s requirements are not so severe as those of either Wellesley or Mt.Holyoke but this point we can ascertain by writing to Elmira for a catalogue. If I can be of any assistance to Mary in getting her admitted, I shall be entirely at your and her disposal. I hope that my suggestion will also meet with your approval.

Sincerely yours,
Sao-Ke Alfred Sze

P.S.: Mary asks me to say that she requests all restrictions placed upon her such as receiving and sending correspondence and receiving visitors since her going to Merrimac removed. I am passing on this request for such action you may deem advisable. </text>

Dear Mr. Stearns:

My absence from Washington during the week-end has prevented me from answering your letter of the 18th inst. before now. Mary wrote to my wife saying that she had been unexpectedly transferred from Abbot Academy to Merrimac and that she was unhappy. She appealed to my wife to beg her father to let her return home next summer. My wife answered that she would forward her letter to her father and that she did not feel that she could recommend any course for her father because she had not followed Mary's progress in this country. We, however, suggest to Mr. Sun, if he approves, to have Mary spend the summer with us and the Easter Vacation if it is sufficiently long to warrant the expense. We think that by living with us for a while, she may get over her homesickness. Last Christmas, my wife wrote Mary asking her whether she had made any arrangements for her vacation and if not to come to us.

In view of the fact that we had forwarded Mary’s 1st letter to Mr. Sun, I am going to forward your letter and my reply also to him.

If there is any way that we can be of service to you with reference to Mary, please do not hesitate to ask us.

Yours sincerely,

Dear Dr. Stearns,

This morning my wife received a letter from Mary Sun who is apparently satisfied with my wife’s letter to her. May I request that you let her come here and spend her Easter vacation with us? If Mary’s allowance does not permit her to incur the expense of travelling, may we be allowed to pay her railway fare both ways? We hope that her coming here may help her to get over her homesickness.

Yours sincerely,
Sao Ke Alfred Sze
