My dear Dr. Stearns: This is to notify you that Mr. Tu terminated his course of study June 6th as he states that it is his intention to return home to China in a very short time. You will be very much disappointed in the inclosed report, but I feel that the poor showing indicated thereon is in a large measure due to the fact that the young man’s mind during the past month has been on matters outside of his studies. June is a month in which a spirit of unrest is prevalent owing to the fact that it is our graduation period and the season when many are terminating their courses for the summer. Unless a student possesses more than an ordinary amount of stick-to-it-tiveness, his progress is materially retarded. Taking a long view of young Tu's course, we feel that we have accomplished some worthwhile results. Some of these may be more or less of an intangible nature. When he first came to us, he was sadly lacking in those traits of character associated with courtesy, gentlemanly bearing, and willingness to take advice. During the latter part of his course, he not only made a decided improvement with respect to these faults but also began to develop a sense of responsibility towards carrying out whatever he was instructed to do. In his studies, the ground he covered has been very limited, but the time he has spent on Accounting, Business Arithmetic, Business English, Spelling, Penmanship, and Typewriting has given him some idea as to the meaning of discipline and business procedure.
