My dear Dr. Stearns,

I have received a letter from Yale University. I already sent in my application with the necessary credentials and information.

In case if you wish to write favor to them, there are three possible persons who are more influential, the Dean of graduate school, Mr. Wilbur L. Cross, the associate dean, Mr. Edgar S. Furniss; the third is the head of the department of political science, whose name I do not know.

I am asking wither Mr. Cross or Mr. Furniss for a conference for next week, so as to give you ample time to write.

Your immediate advise and action will be appreciated.

Sincerely

Delta Upsilon House
Middlebury College
Middlebury, Vermont.

Charlie is still at Boston, and the date of his departure I do not know. Frank Lin is going back to China this September, or he plans to do so. I presume that Arthur and Quincy had arrived at Chona [sic] by this time.

Dear Dr. Stearns,

I am now a graduate of Middlebury College. I received a higher average this semester than I have ever attained before . I received the following grades for the courses which I carried:

Constitutional Law 86
Government Finance 78
Labor 77
Society 86
Criminology 88
Average 83

I am quite proud of the fact that my average has improved from year to year. I started off in my freshman year with an average of 77 and ended up with 83. My average last semester was 80.0.

I am continuing on with Constitutional Law as the only undergraduate course that I ma taking. All my other work will be special research work. I am concentrating all my efforts on Political Science, and I hope that by the time I go to Harvard, I will be well prepared for the work there. I have already written to the Dean there asking for imformation[sic] concerning the same.

It may be a little bit too early, but I think that it is thr[sic] right time for me to ask you for the money to buy the car which you said will be all right for me to have. I have been to several places., and it seems to me that by the time the snow goes off the ground, many other people will want cars, and consequently the price of last year’s Ford will go back to normal. I saw a new Ford of last year's model for the price of $510.00. The dealer said that by the first of March the price will go back to 575.00, which is the regular price for cars of that type, and the cheapest. Thee[sic] are several others that want to buy the same car, and if I can have the money by the end of this week, I think I can buy that car for 510.00 instead of $575.00. I think that it is really better for me to buy that car now. I can store it right in the garage for nothing till the time comes for me to take it out. It will be cheaper by $65.00. I saw the new models this Christmas in New York, and there are no changes except in the body. So there are little difference between the old and the new. There now just as much demand for the old as there is for the new ones. So I think if you will give me the money $510 now by the end of the week, I will be able to save a lot of money.

I received a letter from Charlie the other day, and it seems that he is nono too happy there. But that is only natural, being a strange place to him, But after he makes some friends there, I am sure that he will feel different toward the place.

I received several letters from Mary in the last few weeks, and she is very happy. She is very busy, but she enjoys being that way there. She asked me to spend the summer with her in Ithaca. I originally planned to be in Harvard Summer school this summer to get an early start toward the Doctor’s degree which I hope to get in time. I have make no definite plans however.

Please let me have the money for the car by the end of this week. By the middle of the week if it is convenient for you to do so. It will save me a lot of money, for this is the best time of the year to buy a car, and the cheapest time. The amount of $510.00.

Very sincerely yours</text>

                <text>Dear Mr. Stearns,

I went down to New York for a few days this last Christmas vacation with Charlie, and I dare say that I learn much from the trip. The thing that I have	in mind is that I can not get along	with the Chinese very well, not that I don’t like them, but I can not talk to them.

I am ashamed to admit this, but as the circumstances are, I have to do so. I can talk to them, but with very simple Chinese; I forgot all my good Chinese. When they say something I must hesitate that I might give them the wrong answer. Whenever I write home I will have to look up the words in the dictionary. I forgot so much of my Chinese that I think that it time for me to do something.

The only thing left for me to do is that I must come in contact more with the Chinese than I do now. Columbia, N.Y.U., Harvard, or Amherst have Chinese there, but I have such a place in my heart for Middlebury, that it is very hard for me to transfer to any other college. I really love this college more than I can express with words, but on the other hand I must do something to get back my Chinese. College fraternity and popularity are all right, but after all when I go home I will have to work shoulder to shoulder with my fellow Chinese. As the situation stands now I do not know any Chinese so that I can write to them even, and how are they going to work with me and trust me.

When I was down New York, I was very lonely, and the same is true when I was in Boston last summer. I mingle with American boys, and as you might say that "I am Americanized.” It is good to know the American while I am in this country, but to a certain extent only, but I have gone a little too far in knowing them. And as a result I became one of them.

The fellows and girls in College here look at me as an American, and I was glad when the Y.W.C.A. asked me to speak before them on something about China. That was the only sign that I received here in College that reminds me that I am a Chinese.

Don’t you think that it is time that I should do something. I am completely lost and don’t know what to do. I hope that you can enlighten me to this matter.

Very sincerely yours</text>
